Dig! The BJM

Dig! the Best Rock-Doc in recent memory is now out on a two disk DVD. Go out and get it. I highly recommend this drug trip into the 90's freakshow that was the Brian Jonestown Massacre - with their brilliantly addled leader Anton Newcombe. Sure makes me wish my band in San Francisco - King Dork & The Impact Boys (circa 1989-1993) - had stayed together and actually done some real touring and actually put out a real record (instead of all those crappy homemade cassette tapes we used to pass around). I remember the BJM in their early '90s incarnation and used to hang our bands flyers next to theirs up and down Haight street. Anyway, King Dork is not in the film Dig! as we were way ahead of our time and thus flew under everyone's radar completely. But to get a glimpse at a madman who was more accessible than we were, see this movie.

The Indypop bands of today owe KD a debt they can never repay even if they don’t know it. With the Bowie-esque harmonies and brit-pop sensibilities underscored with an old school Alabama swamp boogie backbone, King Dork laid the foundation for 21st century Indypop – this I know to be true.
